Indian Health Service Physician (Staff Psychiatrist) in Whiteriver, Arizona

Summary

The Staff Psychiatrist position is located at the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU), Medical Department in Whiteriver, AZ. The incumbent is a member of a Behavioral Health care team and ensures that patients receive quality patient-centered mental health care that is consistent with the patient-centered medical principles and care is timely, appropriate, cost effective, sensitive and coordinated. This position reports to the Assistant Clinical Director.

Responsibilities

Responsible for primarily adult, and, as required or needed, adolescent psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, assessments, medication management, therapeutic intervention and treatment of patients of a quality expected from an expert, experienced psychiatrist and in keeping with the standards of the Arizona medical community. Perform and document a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that includes evaluation of mental status, current and past history of various behaviors, substance use, level of functioning, trauma, and social and developmental history. Perform and document a comprehensive physical assessment, with emphasis on the mental status and neurological exam. Develop a treatment plan for mental health problems and psychiatric disorders based on evidence-based standards of care, biopsychosocial theories, and current practice guidelines. Collaborate as a leader of the interdisciplinary mental health and other health care teams and provide mental health consultation to other team members, including the primary care team. Identify both typical and atypical presentations of psychiatric disorders; differentiate psychiatric presentations of medical conditions from psychiatric disorders, including substance related disorders, and arrange appropriate evaluation and follow-up of the former; diagnose psychiatric disorders and recommend treatment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In order to qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following degree requirements for a physician position.

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States as demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country. LICENSURE: This physician position provides direct patient care; as such, all eligible candidates must meet the licensure requirement.Possession of a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. GRADUATE TRAINING:

Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine degree, all candidates must have had at least (1) year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. Internship: Completion of a 1-year internship program which involved a broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). OR Residency: Completion of the first year of a residency program which involved training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). OR Fellowship: Completion of a fellowship program which involved advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0602-15:

Completed 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. Examples include: Responsible for primarily adult and adolescent psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, assessments, medication management, therapeutic intervention and treatment of patients of a quality expected from an expert, experienced psychiatrist and in keeping with the standards of the medical community. Perform and document a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that includes evaluation of mental status, current and past history of behaviors, social, and developmental history; Provide consultative psychiatric evaluations and recommendations to requesting health care personnel. OR Possess a combination of approved residency in Psychiatry and progressive experience equivalent in breadth and intensity for this position. BOARD CERTIFICATION: In addition to the minimum requirements, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of a particular position. Applicants who do not meet the Board Certification factor are ineligible for further consideration. Board certified or board eligible in General Psychiatry, as accredited by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
