Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 DOE


The Senior IT Systems Engineer supports the systems life cycle in Hughes’ multi-platform environment by designing and maintaining an efficient and secure enterprise infrastructure that offers uninterrupted service for our employees and members. The Systems Engineer provides direction in the oversight and management of Hughes enterprise systems infrastructure including server hardware, operating systems, storage hardware/software, messaging and collaboration hardware/software, and related peripherals. This position will provide direction, guidance and train system engineers and technicians to ensure continuity of support and system uptime.

The Systems Engineer must manage at least two infrastructure technologies and have expertise in relevant infrastructure systems. This position is expected to have subject matter knowledge with a firm grasp of solutions, functions, technology and protocols.

Responsible for providing a high level of end-user support in responding to questions and diagnosing and resolving problems within their level of expertise. Maintain assigned systems and provide problem resolution and technical support services with high reliability and a minimum of supervision and direction.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for at least two primary infrastructure technologies: Active Directory, Exchange, DNS, SCCM, VMware, Storage, VPN, O365, Windows Servers, SQL, etc. Will directly support these primary systems and cross train other systems engineers and technicians on the proper maintenance and support for applicable system.

Leads effort on the design and configuration of secure IT systems that grow and support the business and its objectives. Assists in the development of recovery strategies for these related systems. Directs staff on installs, set ups, relocations, configurations, repairs, and support for PC and other computer hardware and software and peripherals

Serves as secondary point of contact and receives, documents and coordinates problems reported to the IT helpdesk; troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves second-level hardware, software and peripheral problems and creates IT trouble tickets in the system for assignment to the next technician available for a site visit; refers more complex problems to senior staff for resolution or coordinates repairs with vendors;; advises and assists users with technical issues related to computer hardware, software and peripherals.

Receives, documents, diagnoses and resolves user problems and requests for technical assistance from customers on computers, peripheral equipment, local and wide area networks, Internet and Intranet services, various server platform connections and remote access

Provides support for Help Desk technicians quickly and efficiently. Creates materials for end-user frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Oversees the maintenance of hardware and software at the company's disaster recovery site and provides technical support for disaster recovery testing.


  • Minimum of 7 years of IT Systems support or related experience.

  • Experience in the installation, configuration and maintenance of at least 4 of the following systems required: Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019, Unix/Linux/Mac, Messaging/collaboration hardware/software, storage hardware/software including SAN technologies, Cloud technologies, VPN management, VMWare (hypervisor/virtualization) technologies, enterprise management/monitoring tools and voice/data networking, best practices and methodologies and their execution


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline required, or equivalent work or educational experience required.

  • Technical System Certifications (Microsoft, VMWare, Cisco, etc) preferred
