Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is full-stack spanning Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). Oracle’s enterprise customers require hybrid network architectures mixing both traditional data center networking, software design networks (SDN), DNS and Load Balancing capabilities.
The OCI Virtual Networking team is building a highly performant, scaled out, and highly available offering that will be the foundation of this enterprise cloud system.
The Network Operations discipline within the OCI Virtual Networking team is a group of highly focused and motivated individuals who solve dayto-day customer support issues, keeping our Customer Support queues clean, well-managed and predictable; and providing high availability to our customers.
The Virtual Networking SREs will spend most of their time handling customer support escalations and identifying common denominators of similar issues for automation opportunities, then subsequently implementing those automations. The ideal candidate is a fast learner, and diligent problem solver with relevant experience in areas such as networking, internet protocols and scalability. This role is a mix of customer advocate, systems engineering, automation engineering, network operations, and data engineering.
The Virtual Networking SREs are close partners with service owners (SDEs and SREs) in all aspects of service operations and are expected to possess a drive for innovation, collaboration and teamwork inspired by the DevOps philosophy.
As a Virtual Networking SRE you will
Handle customer on-calls and own the items in the Virtual Networking Services customer support queues
Manage and triage tickets in the Customer Escalations backlog
Debug customer issues independently or in “swarms” of subject matter experts.
Establish prioritization and completion of work based on impact
Develop automation and tooling to improve OCI systems and address common support issues
Follow, improve and create runbooks to help reduce triage time of incidents and maintain clear and effective documentation
Possess the technical capability and own the responsibility of being the “issue owner” on behalf of the customer, will coordinate and drive joint debugging sessions, and serve as the single point-of-contact for Customer Operations on customer escalations
Coordinate with Customer Support and Service Teams, own customer impacting events and ensure corrective action plans are laid out based on priority
In the role of “issue owner", collaborate effectively across multiple technical teams to ensure a seamless and expedient customer experience
Quickly troubleshoot and resolve customer and operational issues within specified SLA’s
Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation with customer notifications and escalations
Work strategically and tactically in both reactive (incident response) and proactive engagement models in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
3 years of experience working with highly available IP networks
1 year of experience with Java, Python, Bash/Shell Linux/UNIX systems knowledge, including strong system administration skills
Proficient in IP networks, MPLS, network virtualization technologies, and network applications
Excellent analytic and problem solving skills
Experience in technical troubleshooting, with broad expertise in core infrastructure technologies (e.g. server, compute, storage, network, authentication, database)
Proficient in incident management, and agile methodologies, efficient at multi-tasking and able to timely address issues reported by telemetry and customers
