Class B Mechanics should have experience in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining all mechanical portions of the BHS (Baggage Handling System). The Class B Mechanic must be able to work autonomously or with a work crew and know how to proficiently replace any mechanical device, structural portion or support involved with the efficient, safe operation of the BHS. Class B Mechanics should be familiar with 3-phase 480v connections; however, they will only be responsible to work with voltages below 120v. Class B Mechanics must be able to understand and work on single phase 110v and lesser voltage connections under the oversight and approval of the Class A Mechanic
Under the Contractor's general supervision, Passenger Loading Bridge Mechanics (“Mechanics”), are responsible for complex mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment. Mechanics are required to perform duties involving the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of complex mechanical equipment, as well as technically involved auxiliary and control systems. Mechanics work within stressful circumstances at times, thus any Mechanic shall use exceptional judgment when performing these duties. The Contractor shall be responsible for all training required to maintain the passenger loading bridges.
Mechanics are required to perform skilled mechanical work involving inspection, modifications, maintenance and repair on complex, specialized electronic equipment. Mechanics must possess the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems that may arise in regard to the passenger loading bridges, GPU, PAC, security/surveillance and associated equipment. Inspect, diagnose and repair all the critical systems in relation to this equipment including, but not limited to, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems (110v, 277v, 480v), and air-handling systems for the passenger loading bridge. Participates in and performs weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi- annual and annual preventive maintenance and other inspections on passenger loading bridges in accordance with printed maintenance guides, verbal instructions, the manufacturer’s instructions and requirements, and normal trade practices. Provide notes and reports to Supervisor for any defects found during inspections.
Any Corrective Work required as a result of performance of Routine Maintenance. Work shall be brought to the attention of the Supervisor and Manager. All Work shall be inputted into the CMMS and scheduled accordingly. The Contractor shall utilize welders certified by the American Welding Society (AWS) for all structural repairs when such repairs require a Certified Welder and shall utilize electricians licensed by the State of New Jersey whenever repair or replacement of electrical service or components is required.
MUST HAVE AT LEAST 3 YRS OPERATING/ ASSEMBLING/ REPAIRING JET BRIDGES and CONVEYOR SYSTEMS.
Bend, stoop, and crawl to work in tight, restricted areas. Push, pull, lift, parts and components weighing up to 45 pounds in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, or installation of these parts and components from a sitting, standing, bending, squatting, knelling or reaching overhead positions.
Lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds.
Must be able to climb 10 – 25 ft. in height on ladders and perform duties while working on ladders.
Must have good coordination and good balance for working on top of the boarding bridges up to 25-30 ft. above ground.
Must be able to stand 60 – 75% during an 8-hour shift.
Must be able to operate the controls for a forklift or man lift (authorized employees only) in congested area.
Drive vehicles weighing up to 3 tons on selected assignments in congested areas requiring good depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
Must have good eyesight or prescription glasses to read small print on parts and schematics.
Work with color-coded wiring and other components which requires the ability to differentiate colors to include but not limited to red, green, yellow, blue, black, brown, white, and orange.
Operate a variety of tools, including power tools, in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, and installing parts and components while reaching, twisting, turning, and gripping.
Must be able to read and understand electrical schematic.
Work in a high noise-level environment and tolerates dust and jet fumes. (Dust masks and earplugs are provided).
Read and interpret printed or computerized maintenance manuals. Write and type legibly to complete forms/paperwork as required.
Must be able to communicate – verbal and written – in English and be understood by others.
Be familiar with computers and Microsoft based operating systems.
Must be able to regulate own work with little supervision and accomplish tasks on own.
Employee’s personal hand tools are required
Must own and operate electrical multi-meter.
Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays i.e. Friday Saturday, Sunday and days off.
Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED preferred. Valid state driver’s license. Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (i.e. Friday, Saturday and Sunday), holidays, and days off. Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language.
All Mechanics must have at least five (5) years’ experience repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining passenger loading bridges. All Mechanics shall also be qualified/certified as Operators to operate passenger loading bridges as part of their job function. In addition, Mechanics may be used a directed by the Manager to perform Operator duties. While working as Operators, Mechanics shall be subject to the same requirements as Operators as specified herein.
