About Credit and Fraud Risk

Purposeful, ambitious, insatiable, analytical, collaborative and courageous are the hallmarks of our Credit and Fraud Risk team.

This critical team is responsible for managing enterprise risks through the customer life cycle and across all our global products. We develop industry-first data capabilities, build profitable decisioning frameworks, create machine-learning powered predictive models, and improve customer servicing strategies. This team has delivered industry-leading results year after year while enabling profitable growth and delivering a best-in-class customer experience.

This team is comprised of several diverse teams structured under four, core functions:

  • Credit Risk Strategy : Monitor portfolios and make profit-based risk decisions at all stages of the customer credit life cycle

  • Decision Science : Build predictive models using AI/Machine Learning for all portfolios and products

  • Fraud Risk Strategy : Develop fraud prevention strategies on behalf of our customers

  • Risk Capabilities : Develop capabilities to manage data and execute business strategies

Job Responsibilities

You will work in a highly-dynamic and exciting environment and will have the opportunity to shape strategies and policies for American Express Card and Non-Card products as it relates to money management. You will play an influential role working closely with partners in other Risk teams, Marketing, Finance, Global Servicing Network, Legal/Compliance, Banking, and Technologies to create world-class strategies and capabilities.

The key responsibilities Include:

  • As a Product Owner, translate needs of business owners/stakeholders and deliver on the Product roadmap

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across to brainstorm innovative solutions and delivery methods, gather requirements and benefits and drive a common future vision

  • Leading the product functional design and technical design based on an intimate knowledge of the customer and technology;

  • Define the data flow across systems along with integration patterns

  • Develop and maintain conceptual and logical data models for internal system and APIs

  • Identifying opportunities and driving software product strategy, roadmap, and features

  • Lead the business features grooming into software product/capability features and stories;

  • Write stories for scrum teams, perform all scrum ceremonies with scrum team

  • Agile mindset and transformation champion;

  • Prioritizing engineering work and balancing the requirements of customers and stakeholders;

  • Evangelizing the product both internally and externally and shepherding products through the development process, advocating to achieve the best outcomes;

  • Interacting with product managers and engineers to identify needs, opportunities, and gaps, and solve problems;

  • Brainstorming and negotiating effectively with various stakeholders to continuously define feature priority;

  • Partner with other functional teams across the Risk and Non-Risk groups to use standard methodologies and ensure a positive customer experience throughout the customer journey


  • Advanced degree is preferred but not required given a suitable combination of formal education and experience. CS degree related technical field is ideal.

  • Three plus years experience in product delivery, Agile experience is a must.

  • Ability to solve complex problems by breaking down to manageable phases.

  • Understanding of Scaled Agile (SAFe) principles and experience effectively managing a backlog of competing initiatives is preferred

  • Good blend of analytical skills, technical knowledge, process expertise, project management and relationship building skills

  • A curious mind providing thought leadership and innovative digital solutions

  • Credit-Management experience and understanding of credit lifecycle is preferred

  • Ability to think strategically and communicate with the ability to engage, influence and inspire to drive collaboration to make things happen

  • Ability to build strong relationships in a cross-functional environment across the customer journey

  • Independent self-starter that thrives in unambiguous, constantly changing, high pressure environments

  • Clear, effective written and oral communication skills
