Job Description Summary : This position provides transportation services to behavioral health care patients from their homes, hospitals and other various locations. Drivers are responsible for maintaining accurate and complete paperwork. In addition, drivers are responsible for the care of ComTrans property (includes radio, map books, car seats, vehicles, etc.). | Job Description :

REQUIREMENTS:

Required Education: High School Graduate.

Licensing/Registration/Certification/DOT Physical:

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Approved by our insurance company as a driver.

  • Must be certified through ComTrans to drive 15-passenger and wheel chair vans.

  • Certification in at least one of the following:

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) card;

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification card;

  • Caregiver Certification card;

  • CPR and First Aid Certified. May be obtained during orientation if you do not have these certifications.

  • Pass DOT physical.

Experience: No experience necessary. Background in EMS or Behavioral Health is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

ComTrans’ drivers are required to:

  • Effectively communicate. Speak clearly and listen.

  • Be able to stand; climb stairs; walk clients to and from their destination; stoop; kneel; crouch; and reach, extending arms.

  • Assist clients in getting in and out of a vehicle.

  • Sit in a driving position from 1 to 12 hours.

  • Crisis Drivers occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

  • Have specific vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Outside in all types of weather, going to and from vehicle.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to Program Manager for Crisis.

  • Works closely with ComTrans Network Dispatch, and external customers.

AUTHORITY:

  • Utilize the gas card to fill up vehicles for business use only.

  • Vehicle and radio usage for business purposes only.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of this position consist of, however not limited to, the following:

  • Be knowledgeable of the entire Crisis Drivers’ operation, including the use of vehicles, mapping and car seats.

  • Be knowledgeable of Crisis Driver Guide.

  • Ensure all vehicles have required supplies:

  • Maps

  • Vehicle Binders

  • Phone charger

  • Fire extinguishers

  • Car Seats

  • Protective gloves and HEPA masks

  • Maintain a safety work attitude; utilizing defensive driver techniques by following ComTrans’ defensive driver safety guidelines. This includes:

  • Providing patient/client care and securely handling patients by using the proper safety procedures.

  • Drivers complying with all of the parameters set forth by ComTrans’ insurance carrier for driving requirements.

  • Properly securing wheelchairs when applicable.

  • Utilize Crisis Prevention Intervention Training when necessary.

  • Be knowledgeable and follow the rules of child restraints.

  • Provide high customer service within ComTrans and with all clients. Maintain a professional and respectful attitude to our clients, their families, case managers and vendors.

  • Assist PD on domestic violence calls.

  • Assist clients to and from detox facility.

  • Be knowledgeable on the proper usage of protective equipment and supplies.

  • Complete Vehicle Check-offs prior to the start of shift.

  • Ensure assigned vehicle is clean on the inside and out. Pick-up trash prior to returning vehicle.

  • Maintain a smoke-free environment in company vehicles and at ComTrans office. This pertains to clients and ComTrans employees.

  • On-going communications with Network Dispatch as needed.

  • Be knowledge of Maricopa County.

  • Attendants are responsible for the care of the patient during the trip. Filling out appropriate paperwork including proper documentation for billing, signature and any other supplemental forms.

  • Follow procedures on proper decontamination of the unit and equipment.

  • Follow ComTrans Driver’s Dress Code.

  • Ensure all paperwork is complete, accurate and turned in at the end of the working day.

  • Understand and follow ComTrans policies and procedures, as stated in Employee Handbook and/or in communications with management.

MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE:

The Crisis Driver Manager will evaluate the performance of the Crisis Driver Manager using the following criteria:

  • Responsiveness and smooth operation of client pick-ups.

  • Timeliness and accuracy of paperwork.

  • Maintains compliance with safety standards.

  • The activities of the Crisis Drivers have been consistent with company policies, established procedures, and the directives of the Operations Manager.

  • Assigned vehicles and vehicle supplies are in satisfactory operating condition.

  • Responsiveness to client issues and concerns.

  • High level of customer service.

  • Relationship with other Network Dispatch, peers, clients and vendors.
