Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Our four major business lines include Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, and Wells Fargo Commercial Capital. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

This position is within the Commercial Real Estate Control organization and will be responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing leadership related to Exam Management and Examiner Relations, supporting the CRE Business. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing risk management and CRE subject matter expertise on lending, banking and securities issues. The leader will be responsible for leading risk identification, assessment and mitigation strategies, and managing a community of practice of individuals performing day to day risk and control activities.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Act as a key point of contact for senior leaders in CRE, CRE Control, IRM, Wells Fargo Audit, Testing and Validation, regulators, and other constituents; ensure that all inquiries are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.

  • Key risk management contact for the CRE businesses with proven knowledge of products, services, processes, systems and customers.

  • Exams / Reviews and Early Issue Identification: Provide leadership for internal testing engagements such as Enterprise T&V, Internal audit, and Regulatory exams. Direct collaboration and support for observations and potential findings, including whether identified risks are being mitigated through BAU processes or should be managed through issues management. The proactive engagement with issue validators and examiners also present key opportunities to identify gaps and address risks early through SDIs and/or self-assurance activities.

  • Community of Practice Leadership: Establish and implement consistent best practices related to Exam Management and Examiner Relations across CRE by leveraging the CRE Control Community of Practice model. Collaborate with, guide and counsel LOB partners on matters relating to the risk identification, formulation and implementation corrective actions and necessary control enhancements to fully mitigate identified risks. Socialize exam related findings and trend analysis and support escalations as appropriate. Ensure that best practices are fully integrated with CIB Group Issues Management and Enterprise Issues Management expectations and requirements.

  • Support transparency of major requirements and associated controls.

  • Assist in coordinating and delivering CRE training on relevant topics.

  • Management Reporting: Provide ongoing reporting that supports the exam calendars across CRE, scheduling and scoping of upcoming engagements to ensure proper resource allocation from the Control and LOB teams.

There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit's risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong risk management leadership skills

  • 5+ years of commercial real estate experience

  • Ability to read and understand complex commercial real estate loan documentation and securitization documents, including pooling and servicing agreements

  • Ability to articulate issues, risks, and proposed solutions to various levels of staff and management

  • Experience working with internal and external auditors and examiners

  • Experience coordinating internal audits or examinations conducted by external parties

  • Experience working at a federal bank regulatory agency or experience interacting with federal regulatory agencies managing regulatory examinations and continuous monitoring activities

  • Experience reviewing testing strategies and methodologies; evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, initiatives, products and internal controls; and identifying issues resulting from internal and/or external compliance examinations

  • Audit, audit process, and audit plan management experience

  • Ability to represent the company/business units to internal and external auditors, RECOR, OCC, or other regulatory agencies

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate complex material to a diverse audience

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of Commercial Real Estate businesses, its products and services, and relevant risks and controls of the business.

  • Working knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) concepts and policies across risk types (regulatory, financial crimes, credit, operational, etc.).

  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, and deliver quality analysis and highly actionable management information.

  • Demonstrated capacity to pro-actively and independently analyze and solve problems and address risks with the business unit's risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.
