SMG Manager, Events & Production in Glendale, Arizona

Job Title: Manager, Events & Production Department: Operations Reporting: Director of Operations Status: Exempt Job Summary The Manager, Events & Production is responsible for overseeing all aspects of post-booking stage of event planning and execution. Directing, managing and coordinating all event related services including event management, logistic operations, set-up, equipment service and production logistics. This individual is responsible for gathering and disseminating all event related information to various departments throughout the arena. This person is responsible for management of the facilities production and Audio/Visual equipment, Production Engineering and Production crew departments and will oversee service of all AV, broadcast and production related systems. Event Management Tasks and Responsibilities: * Manage and oversee event operations for NHL games for primary tenant including game-day and non-game day related event setups and activities. * Manage and oversee event operations for all major concerts, family shows and other special events from post-booking through post-event stages. * Maintain relationships with a wide variety of clients including NHL franchise, national and local concert promoters, corporate clients, vendors and suppliers * Manage relationship and productivity of Stagehands, rigging and other labor contractors. * Work with various arena and team departments to meet event staffing and production needs * Plan and manage event related expenses and budgets. * Create floor plans for events based on building safety code. Secure proper permits for events. Ensure compliance with all applicable fire, building and safety codes. * Prepare supporting documentation including event notes, expense estimates and post notes. * Develop and manage department budget including Operating, Maintenance and Capital Projects as related to production services * Oversee and manage stagehands, riggers and other event related contract event personnel. * Maintain relationships with event support vendors and rental houses that provide services for event related activities * Hold regular recurring Production Meetings with various arena and tenant departments to ensure accurate and timely and accurate delivery of event information. Production/Technical Tasks and Responsibilities * Manage and oversee arena related broadcast, production and technical setup aspects of NHL games for primary tenant. * Maintain Audio/Visual and broadcast systems including: Daktronics, cameras, scoreboard, motors, hoists, control room, rack room, television, CATV distribution etc. * Manage Production Engineering department including hiring, training, developing and terminating full time and part time staff as needed. * Oversee hiring, training, scheduling and payroll of professional technical crew including: Video operator, lighting director, camera operators, audio, graphics and production crew. * Other duties and projects as assigned by Director of Operations. * Manage and maintain AV equipment including fixed and portable assets. Required Knowledge/Skills/Job Qualifications: Knowledge, Skill and Ability * Demonstrated effective event management, technical and personnel management experience. * Significant successful similar and compatible event facility experience, business experience or similar event experience preferred. * Exceptional leadership and communication skills. Self motivated and results oriented. * Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment. * Auto CAD experience strongly preferred. * Proven ability to organize and coordinate projects and personnel. * Fire and public safety regulations * Familiarity with crowd management and control techniques * Working knowledge of AV and electronic systems used in professional public assembly facilities * Proficiency with general office PC applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, databases). * Proven job reliability, diligence, dedication and attention to detail. * Must be flexible with long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays. Education and Formal Training: * Bachelors Degree in Business, Marketing Sport Management or related field. Experience: * A minimum of 7-10 years experience in event management, logistics and coordination. * Familiarity with AV systems, broadcast systems and production systems * Strong Management background with professional sports teams and events in a premier market. * Major public assembly and/or arena experience preferred. * Prior experience in NHL/NBA/NFL venue operations a must. Material and Equipment Used: * Company vehicles. * Heavy equipment operations: Fork Lift, scissor lifts, boom lifts * Office equipment: copier, computer/keyboard, telephone, and fax.
