Responsibilities

*As a Logistics Operations Specialist within the Southwest Biological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: *

  • Participate in the development of workplans, budgeting, strategic planning, annual logistics plan, and additional field logistics;
  • Oversee warehouse operations, including equipment purchases, maintenance and repair, property management, acquisitions, emergency communications, equipment, and fleet management;
  • As a Contracting Officers Representative (COR), manage logistics boat operators contract, oversee task orders for USGS on-call small aircraft contract, manage logistics services contracts to cover hourly wage needs;
  • Serve as the focal contact for all research trips and for compliance with the Colorado River Management Plan and wilderness/minimum tool use guidelines;
  • Serve as the lead for field safety;
  • Operate a government vehicle on a regular and reoccurring basis

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?

  • This position is subject to pre-employment testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.

Qualifications

GS-0346-9 - Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-9 level:

*A masters or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.

*OR one year of appropriate specialized experience that in logistics management or related field is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled.

Examples of GS-7 level work may include: 1) developing annual logistics plans associated with river trips; 2) implements individual logistics plans; or 3) conducts cost assessments of river trips and provides recommendations to program managers.

GS-0346-11 - Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:

*A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.

*OR one year of appropriate specialized experience that in logistics management or related field is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled.

Examples of GS-9 level work may include: 1) developing annual logistics plans associated with river trips and guiding others to develop such plans; 2) implements individual logistics plans and directs others to implement such plans; or 3) conducts cost assessments of river trips and demonstrates the ability to provide recommendations to principle investigators and Center leadership both orally and in writing.

In addition to the basic qualification requirements, you must also meet the selective placement factor for the position to be found as qualified. The selective placement factors are:
