Northern Arizona Healthcare Lead Data Scientist 14774 in Flagstaff, Arizona

This position is responsible for supporting enterprise wide healthcare operational and clinical optimization and improvement by using data science. Provides leadership to data science and improvement teams at Northern Arizona Healthcare; and improves centralized data processes; this includes developing a program and related processes to facilitate requests for data that support division goals. In addition, this position is responsible for developing and strengthening relationship with stakeholders and bring the art of data science into practice.

This position is responsible for providing data and analytic support for a specific subject matter area. This includes working with large databases and applying quantitative methodologies using advance analytical tools. This position proactively identifies new opportunities for the organization to improve on, using advanced scientific approaches and methods. Performs substantive, comprehensive, and quantitative analyses to produce data-driven solutions and recommendations to position the company competitively relative to outcomes, operations and profitability. Provides some training to peers within immediate team. This position will work with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams to improve business outcomes.

Customer Consultation

  • Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions to non-standard requests. Interacts primarily with department and cross-department peers, supervisor, customers, peers’ managers, patients and physicians.

  • Makes decisions within approved operating plans and objectives and within functional policies and precedents. Determines how and when to achieve results.

  • Serve as a resource and consultant for end-users of clinical data, interacting with system and facility departments as needed to assist with training / consultation of teams and individuals in data collection and analysis.

Process Improvement

  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business challenges to suggest improvements to services, processes or products.

  • Solves complex problems. Takes a new perspective using existing solutions.

Leadership

  • Provides leadership support and direction to staff, directs personnel actions including recruiting, new hire actions, interviewing and selection of new staff, salary determinations, training, and personnel evaluations. This position also participates in the development of goals and objectives in accordance with company standards.

  • Lead efforts to drive change in processes, tools and capabilities that increase operational efficiency and effectiveness. Plans and directs the design, analysis, and presentation of clinical performance information based on appropriate research. Manages the development of the infrastructure to report system and facility outcomes in a state-of-the-art format optimizing end-user accessibility.

  • Oversees ongoing development of clinical reporting using databases and analytical software for complex system-wide analyses. Identifies and anticipates development of key clinical and operational data that needs to be available to support both external and internal reporting needs.

  • Leads team to support system wide clinical performance improvement efforts. Presenting data analysis and consultation to support decisions about the direction and strategies of company and Care Transformation division.

  • Partner with NAH stakeholders and clinicians to identify and validate potential hypothesis and research areas to improve clinical, operational and performance outcomes. Lead efforts to implement data solutions to support improvements.

Compliance/Safety

  • Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all department, patient, and employee matters.

  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

  • Stays current and complies company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in the field of Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Health Services Research, Process Engineering, Business or related field. - Required

Masters or PhD in Math, Statistics, or related technical field - Preferred

Experience

  • A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience or equivalent with inferential statistics, A/B testing, machine learning, predictive modeling and statistical analysis techniques in a healthcare or similar environment. - Required

  • Must have experience in working with cross functional departments in order to serve as a liaison and provide relevant guidance or leadership. - Required

  • Must have strong technical skills (SQL, SAS, Tableau, etc.). - Required

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department.
