Northern Arizona Healthcare Biomedical Imaging Specialist in Flagstaff, Arizona
The Biomedical Specialist is a professional that services and maintains diagnostic imaging and biomedical equipment with an emphasis on those devices that interface with the hospital network, PACS system. These systems include, but are not limited to; diagnostic radiography, and the myriad biomedical systems and equipment throughout the hospital. This position requires a blend of clinical engineering, diagnostic imaging and advanced biomedical technologist skills proprietary software, computer networks, PACS and CR/DR Systems. The Biomedical Specialist serves as technical consultant to the medical and professional staff on these systems. Biomedical engineering abilities include troubleshooting, calibration, repairs and parts replacement. Maintains all applicable departmental documentation to comply with regulatory standards. Assists Medical and Nursing staff in the use of medical equipment as needed. Works as part of the Biomed team to manage the Environment of Care.
Medical Equipment Repair
Repairs Broken Medical equipment to manufacturer specifications.
Assists, manages and monitor third-party repairs.
Documents repairs to meet NIAHO standards.
Works with other teams to install complex systems and acts as a resource to other departments.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the functions of electrical/electronic and computer components of medical equipment.
Demonstrates knowledge of electrical/electronic and computer components of medical equipment.
Demonstrates knowledge of biological signals.
Demonstrates knowledge of basic human anatomy and physiology.
Medical Equipment Preventive Maintenance
Performs preventive maintenance inspections on a variety of medical and Imaging equipment.
Calibrates equipment to manufacturer specifications.
Demonstrates the proper knowledge and use of medical test equipment.
Demonstrate competence in the clinical environment through internship or practical experience including performing preventive maintenance and repairs.
Medical Equipment Life Cycle Management
Identifies equipment risks associated with age or misuse of equipment.
Reviews equipment history and recommends system replacement.
Inspects and documents all incoming equipment per policy.
Identifies, analyzes, and integrates technical equipment requirements with the needs of the medical staff and patients.
Demonstrates knowledge of computerized medical maintenance systems (CMMS) and the proper documentation of medical equipment services.
Assists in identifying training needs for the Biomed and Clinical Staff.
Instructs the Clinical staff in proper use of complex Medical equipment.
Demonstrates knowledge of medical vocabulary.
Demonstrates ability to train other team members in complex problem solving.
Provides mentoring and guidance to other departments within the Healthcare Technology Division.
Demonstrates knowledge of the integration between computers/servers and how they interface with Medical Equipment.
Serves as a resource for HTD on complex projects.
Demonstrates an understanding of Local Area Network and computer device communications (addressing and communications protocols).
Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
High School Diploma or GED- Required
Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience in Diagnostic Imaging or PACS- Preferred
Certification & Licensures
Certified Biomedical Equipment Tech (CBET)- Preferred
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
Minimum 5 years experience in Radiology Service- Required
2-4 years experience in a direct patient care facility- Required
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department.
