Microchip Technology Staff Project Manager in Chandler, Arizona

Description

Microchip Technology Inc. has Staff Project Manager opening based in our Chandler, AZ office. As a Staff Project Manager, you will drive Product Life Cycle and execution for New Program Introduction (NPI) and will be a key player in the advancement of Microchip’s strategic product direction. NPI is a large scale development that span multiple functions (silicon, firmware, software, marketing, applications and infrastructure), comprised of 100+ engineering staff and $50M+ budget. The Staff Project Manager will be responsible for following and driving the Product Life Cycle for product delivery to lead customers and will manage the product from conception through the release to production. Execution will involve the coordination of multiple internal functional groups and interfacing with customers.

Beyond solid program delivery and technical skills, you should be a professional with experience in board level hardware, firmware, and software product development. You should have demonstrated the ability synthesize strategic solutions that are interdependent and with a broad spectrum of problems. You must thrive in a very fast-paced and demanding environment and iterate quickly, provide exceptional thought leadership, and to partner across a wide variety of functions. You possess a strong internal drive, a tenacious spirit, a collaborative method of working and deep experience in solving hard problems as simply as possible. In addition, the Staff Project Manager should be focused at all times on delivering premium service to our internal and external customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the entire program and the linkage of the elements.

  • Help create and manage program level Critical Success Factors (CSF).

  • Execute the program with an understanding of how changes in sub-programs can best be managed to minimize impact to the overall program.

  • Lead NPI through MSCC Product Development Process.

  • Creation of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and initial program schedules.

  • Identification of required resources.

  • Manage and document all phase gates and adhere to the design control process.

  • Coordination of functional groups in the planning process that span multiple functions.

  • An understanding of the board level development and test process.

  • Good operational knowledge of the overall process that includes product solutions.

  • A firm understanding of embedded software development and delivery.

  • Interface to lead customers.

  • Participate in requirements gather with marketing and architects.

  • Provide timely updates to key customers as required.

  • Drive tracking and closing product requirements at the product level.

  • Timely review of bottoms-up program schedule (generally weekly) spanning the program.

  • Identify increasing work scope and other issues with sufficient time to address.

  • Regular update of project dashboard.

  • Manage program buffer.

  • Manage change management process.

  • Define the process for the project involving appropriate stakeholders (marketing, design, apps, software, etc.).

  • Must have excellent cross functional communications.

  • Chair regular change management meetings and distribute approvals/disapprovals.

  • Manage risk management process.

  • Help with initial capture, ranking and mitigation of risks.

  • Regularly review risks to assess previously identified and new risks (monthly to quarterly).

  • Working knowledge of the ECO process utilizing Agile B2B software a plus.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 12.5+ years of industry experience.

  • Experience in managing highly-complex, technically challenging projects, with solid data analysis skills.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

  • Able to adapt to new situations quickly.

  • Ability to manage across multiple remote sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering Proto Board to Production Experience.

  • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.

  • Outstanding organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.

  • Exceptional skills influencing, teaming, and delivering solutions in a highly complex, always changing, and sometimes nebulous environment.

  • Certified in program management is a plus but not required.
