Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk types, including conduct, credit, financial crimes, information security, interest rate, liquidity, market, model, operational, regulatory compliance, reputation, strategic, and technology risk.

The Consumer Credit Risk team that supports Small Business Lending is seeking a highly motivated and experienced risk professional who loves to solve business questions; impact the bottom line of business by hands-on driven actions through systematic database solutions. Wells Fargo Small Business Lending (SBL) is the country’s leading small business lender with a full product suite to serve credit needs of small business owners. These products include lines of credit, business cards, term loans, and commercial real estate products. SBL is a technically sophisticated, entrepreneurial organization committed to applying the most advanced mathematical and data-driven technologies, in conjunction with strong judgmental underwriting discipline and expertise to small business lending.

The Credit Portfolio Consultant 4 will participate in strategic portfolio risk initiatives for the commercial real estate (BREF) and asset secured lending (ASL) products. More specifically, you will be evaluating and sizing risk and opportunities, developing account management and problem credit (workout) policies and strategies by balancing data-driven analytics and sound credit risk judgment, and managing credit exposure risk at the product and customer level. You will work closely with partners within the immediate team, Credit Risk, Product, Operations, and Technology to implement new enhancements and continuously optimize portfolio risk strategies. To be effective in this position, you will need to have a good understanding of credit from a full lifecycle perspective, a broad and strategic perspective on risk management, a proven track record of using the results of your analysis to drive business decisions, and be fluent in both the key technical tools of credit risk decisioning and sound credit judgment.

The main responsibilities include:

• Lead and support key credit risk strategies and initiatives for the BREF/ASL Risk Team ensuring appropriate portfolio management of the commercial real estate secured and asset secured lending portfolio that conform to WF’s risk appetite, credit policies and procedures.

• Partner with Loss Control/Collections and Workout teams on workout and portfolio management strategies and improve insight into potential problem accounts and enhance early warning indicators.

• Represent the BREF/ASL Risk Team and provide subject matter expertise on commercial account management and problem credits and strategies during reviews and audits.

• Lead and support various risk strategies and monitoring to ensure effective controls and risk governance are in place for real estate secured and non-real estate secured credit portfolio management.

• Provide support to partners regarding SBL credit policy and application to account management (including line of credit renewals) and problem credit management (including modifications and workout)

• Provide insight and guidance to BREF risk team members on analytics and reporting in a matrixed environment.

• Excellent partnership and communication skills with BREF Risk Team Members as well as SBL Risk Team Members and various key stakeholders in SBL operations.

• Provide limited credit transaction support when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of risk experience

  • 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • A BS/BA degree or higher

  • Ability to present to multiple levels of management

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
